NOTE: For those who asked, Rudra, as quoted from the tantra text is not the Hindu God but is the use of the word in the Tantra (which means, per the Sanskrit dictionary: crying, howling, roaring, dreadful, terrific, terrible, horrible) -- it is a word description here, not the name of the god. Rudra, the god, is named with this word because of the same association with "roarer or howler" — i.e. the word meaning. (All of these tantras are translated texts. In other words, the tantra is describing the antagonist (representing Ego) as a "Dreadful" black demon (the literal definition of Rudra Black Demon.

MANTRA of HAYAGRIVA
Venerable Zasep Rinpoche advises that even without empowerment we may chant the mantra but any visualization (without empowerment) would be in front of us, not self-generated (only empowered individuals can self-generate.) The main mantra is, as published on the Kurukulla Centre for Tibetan studies is

“OM HRIH VAJRA KRODHA HAYAGRIVA HULU HULU HUM PHAT”

in Tibetan pronunciation this can sound like:

Om Hri Benza Todha Hayagiva Hulu Hulu Hum Pey

There is also a longer version of the mantra, especially important in Hayagriva Sangdrub practice:
OM HRIH PADMAN TATRO VAJRA KRODHA HAYAGRIVA HULU HULU HUM PHAT.
