Overland Gone Sideways: Engine Blown, disaster at 3AM!

Day two of our overland trip starts after a rainy night. We set off for Baške Oštarije to meet Čima, but our shortcut attempt turns into a dead end. Just as we push forward, disaster strikes Dario’s Jeep Cherokee snaps a serpentine belt! With no other choice, we call Čima for backup. ⏳ Time is ticking. In Senj, under the cold night sky, we get to work… and somehow, against the odds, the Cherokee lives again. But fate isn’t done with us yet. At exactly 2 AM, deep in the forest, an explosion-like bang cuts through the silence—Čima’s Ranger’s engine blows! Stuck in total darkness, we tow it to Mrkvište, hoping for the best. Morning brings grim news: the engine bay is drenched in oil. We have no choice but to tow it to Krasno while pushing ahead to Senj, leaving the Ranger to await a tow truck the next day. And then, the real adventure begins. The gravel road to Vratnik turns into an icy battlefield—massive snowdrifts and hurricane-force winds slam into us. We get trapped seven times, each attempt to push through met with brutal resistance. Eventually, we admit defeat and crawl back to the main road. Cold, battered, but still standing, we reach Senj, grab a warm meal, and finally head home.
