December closed out a record-breaking year for Japan’s tourism industry, even as arrivals from mainland China dropped some 45 per cent amid ongoing diplomatic tensions. Japanese officials announced that 42.7 million international tourists had arrived in the country in 2025, breaking the previous record set just one year earlier.
