Tonight begins with an energetic ʻoteʻa, showcasing the power, rhythm, and spirit of our young dancers.
They will then perform two beautiful aparima items:
Te Uru – ‘E ‘e mā‘a maitai te uru
This dance celebrates the beloved ‘uru (breadfruit), a treasured staple in Tahiti. The phrase means “Breadfruit is good food,” expressing the joy, gratitude, and importance of this traditional island nourishment.
Tahiti Nui
This item pays tribute to Tahiti Nui, the “Great Tahiti,” honouring the island’s beauty, strength, and cultural pride. It reflects the deep connection the Tahitian people hold for their homeland.
For twenty years, Heilani has opened its doors to Brisbane, sharing the stories, songs, dances, and spirit of the Pacific. And tonight, we gather to honour that journey—past, present, and future—together as one family, one community, one heartbeat.
