This expert group meeting, entitled “Resilient Futures: Care and Support in the Context of Climate Change in MENA,” was held online on December 15, 2025, in partnership with UNICEF and UNDP Regional Bureau for Arab States. It examines how climate change is reshaping care and support systems across the MENA region, intensifying unpaid care burdens, deepening gender and generational inequalities, and constraining women’s and girls’ pathways from learning to earning.
The discussion explores the intersections of climate risk, the care economy, the digital divide, and labor market exclusion, with a focus on climate-smart, gender- and child-responsive policy approaches. The session brings together feminist economists, UN agencies, civil society actors, and young women climate advocates, and features presentations on feminist care and climate justice frameworks alongside new research from the AUB Asfari Institute. It concludes by outlining actionable pathways for advancing climate-resilient and equitable care systems in highly vulnerable MENA contexts.
