New York Sea Grant Biennial Research Call for 2026-2027 — Q&A (January 2025)

Stony Brook, NY, January 14, 2025 - During this information webinar, New York Sea Grant (NYSG)'s Research Coordinator, Lane Smith, reviewed the submission guidelines for the program's Biennial Research Call for 2026-2027.

In addition to reviewing the submission process, Smith answered questions from and provided some background for virtual attendees.

Some key things to keep in mind …

• Deadline for pre-proposals is 5 PM Eastern on Monday, February 3, 2025.

• Approximately $120,000 per year per project will be provided to support, in total, about 8-10 projects — this is contingent on the availability of federal funds.

• We welcome one or two-year projects, with each anticipated to begin February 1, 2026.

• The main goal of NYSG’s research program is to generate and provide valid scientific information and tools that further the sustainable development, use, protection, conservation, and management of our coastal resources.

• The research must be driven by stakeholder-identified research needs and provide enhanced opportunities for NYSG to ‘make a difference’ and positively impact important coastal issues.

• Research in many disciplines, including biology, chemistry, geology, physical oceanography, engineering, and social science will be appropriate.

• We encourage early-career researchers and researchers who have not submitted to Sea Grant before to submit a pre-proposal.
