Amtrak train #5 makes it station stop at the depot in Ottumwa, Iowa as part of its trip westward on July 27, 2013. This is a very unique "California Zephyr" with a lot of special pieces on it. First is the 40th anniversary heritage unit 184 in the second position. This is only the second time I've seen this engine in its Phase IV paint: • Very Rare: Amtrak Detour with Two Annivers... . The four locomotives on this train are the most I've seen on an Amtrak train and they are arranged elephant style.
Then at the end of the "Zephyr" are four special cars. The first of them is the sleeping car "Pacific Cape." Second is a Viewliner sleeper. This is the first time I've seen a Viewliner. They're normally kept on the eastern long-distance trains. The third car is the Great Dome "Ocean View." This is also my first time seeing Amtrak's only dome car. The last car is the office car "Beech Grove." The reason for all these extra cars and extra locomotives is that Amtrak's President Joseph Boardman and other executives are on this train heading to Pueblo, Colorado. There are two examples of Amtrak's newest electric locomotive, the ACS-64, at the test track near Pueblo.
