This is the chatty GranpaJay family home movie & long play JwaGuitars sound check verision of the Red Pine No.3 of 5 instruments in my Epic Maple Burl Series. This series was conceived by embracing the idea that these instruments are a natural wood product and come from trees. This series returns home to traditional guitar forms (in this case a vintage 1918 Martin Parlor Guitar Model #1-18) then fearlessly pushes the natural wood product idea clean off the deep end. Because I can, while asking the question what is the effect on the traditional guitar voice. This traditional, diminutive, overachieving, 12 fret Parlor guitar was finished with Odies Oil on a Wednesday, strung-up on a Thursday, traveled with me as carry-on baggage to Stockholm, Sweden overnight Friday to Saturday morning, June 9th 2018. Three days later, on the 12th, I was thrilled to meet Emil Ernebro in the Gothenburg Central Station Park. He sat on a park bench, opened the carry-on guitar case, picked up the Red Pine Epic Maple Burl Parlor No. 3 of 5 and began to play a wee concert in the park. After the "test drive", I asked Emil what I could do to improve this traditional 12 fret Parlor guitar to better suit his professional guitar touring needs. The conversation in the park that followed was the single, direct and immediate inspiration for my SE Touring Series of six instruments. So, that's the context and backstory for where the non-traditional 14 fret Parlor guitars where hatched.
