🎬 ALAN LADD'S STORY:
Ladd knew something about overcoming dark times. Born in Hot Springs, Arkansas, he was just four when he watched his father die. His mother's later struggles marked him deeply. That pain perhaps gave his performances their haunting quality.

📺 BREAKTHROUGH ROLE:
When This Gun for Hire made him a star in 1942, audiences responded to something real in his portrayal of Raven, the hired killer with a conscience. They dyed his blonde hair black for that role – the same hair that supposedly disqualified him from stardom.
