I think most of you guys would know I love shooting long. Especially when I do street video. First long lens compress the image and make your shot look a lot nicer. Second, when you do street video. Sometime its hard to shoot in front of people. So if you have a long lens. You can shoot people a lot easier. So this time I got my early hands on the RF 100-400mm lens. And this is the affordable version of the Canon RF 100-500mm lens. But is that any good? Lets find out together in this video.

So why I tested on Canon C70 instead of the R5? There are couple of reasons. First, I wanted get the best result. Canon C70 gives a slightly detail image over the Canon R5. As well as better dynamic range. Second, when you are testing the tele lens might aswel get as tight as possible. On the C70, the super 35mm works out about 640mm. Also it is the best way to see how good the lens IS performs. Third, the build in ND filter on the C70. Not that I don’t have the 67mm filter for the R5. But couple of years ago I did a tele lens review in Melbourne. And I used a normal ND filter. And it made the whole footage look really soft and off colors. At first I didn’t know it was my filter because it didn’t have any issue when I use it on a wide angle lens. After that I realize tele lens magnify the image a lot so good ND filter is really important.

The image looks nice, but it might not be the sharpest lens I have ever tested. I mean its pretty decent consider its not an L series lens. Also its very affordable. Some of you may wondering the f/stop is a bit slow. Yes, it is. But having that crazy range even at f/8 you still get a really nice bokeh. The only thing I would say is the lowlight performance. You would not want to use this lens at night. Especially when you are shooting at 400mm.

But one thing I gotta mention, its the image Stabilization on the lens. It is amazing. The IS is just so good. When shooting on the C70 (Non IBIS camera) Even at 640mm. You can really get some decent handheld shots.
