Las Cruces New Mexico’s Unsolved Bowling Alley Massacre | Scene of the Crime

We’re in Las Cruces, New Mexico to visit the Scene of the Crime for one of the most horrific crimes in New Mexico history. The Las Cruces Bowling Alley Massacre remains unsolved, almost 35 years later.

When I heard about this story, and listened to the 911 call, it inspired me to head out to the Scene of the Crime. This case is heart breaking.

We open with the actual 911 call made by then 12 year old Melissa Repass. And then head to the bowling alley where this massacre occurred in 1990 to show you where this happened.

The story begins on a Saturday morning in February of 1990. Employees Stephanie Senac and Ida Holguin were opening up the Bowling Alley around 8am. Stephanie’s daughter Melissa was there along with her friend Amy Houser. All four of them were herded into the office by the two assailants.

While they ransacked the office, another employee, Steven Teran and his two young daughters arrived. They also were held at gunpoint in the office while the perpetrators continued to search the office. They left with some of the cash, but not before shooting each of the people in the office and lighting it on fire.

That’s when Melissa called 911 and got police on the way over to the bowling alley. Despite being shot 5 times, she told the police what happened and got help so that her mother and Ida were able to survive. The other four victims died either at the scene or shortly thereafter. Stephanie, Melissa’s mom, passed away in 1999 due to complications from her wounds suffered that day.

Las Cruces, New Mexico was quiet the day we went out to film. It was right around the holidays, so we saw a very quiet downtown. And we got some beautiful views of the Organ Mountains surrounding the town. That eerie quiet added to the sadness about this case. It’s been almost 35 years without an arrest or any sign of justice.
