While William Butler Yeats never visited India, it remained for him a place of creative and spiritual interest, one he experienced through the lens of his various interlocutors at different points in his lifetime: Mohini Chatterjee, Rabindranath Tagore, and lastly, Shri Purohit Swami. Dr Ragini Mohite thinks through the construction of Yeats’ idea of India. In the centenary years of Yeats’ Nobel Prize, we also trace his relationship with fellow Nobel winner Rabindranath Tagore and look through some of his India-related works.
