Sri Vidya, a postgraduate and private college lecturer from Vuyyuru, married Arun Kumar in April 2025. On the eve of Raksha Bandhan (August 4), Sri Vidya called her father expressing despair, saying she could no longer bear the harassment. She was later found hanging in her rented home. In her final message, she apologized to her brother for being unable to tie rakhi this year. Police registered cases of dowry cruelty and abetment to suicide and launched a manhunt for Arun Kumar, who remains absconding.

Local residents and student peers, recalling her dedication and academic life, condemned the abuse. Sri Vidya's family demanded strong legal action, while the community demanded justice.
