One advantage of attending travel trade shows that rotate annually between different cities and / or countries, is that you get to meet companies and people you may otherwise never see.

That is precisely why the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) is such an important trade show as it enables media, buyers and other delegates attending the event to get a real feel for how the destination's tourism products are developing, and to meet local sellers who may not have the budget, time or desire to attend some of the world's larger trade shows such as the WTM in London or others.

Rotating annually between the 10-member countries that make up ASEAN, Vientiane was the host city for the ATF in 2024. Whilst the show floor was small, all the buyers that Travel News Asia spoke to were very happy with the number and quality of sellers available for them to do business with, and all appreciated all the hard work and effort that the Laos government had put in to making the event such a great success.

One area of Laos that is attracting a lot of interest from a tourism perspective is the Nam Ngum Reservoir, where there are already a number of resorts open and more planned.

In addition to resorts, the reservoir has a number of islands and the scenic cruises provide a relaxing way to enjoy a few hours out on the water.

To learn more about one of the resorts in the area - the Dansavanh Nam Ngum Resort, Steven Howard of Travel News Asia sat down with Michelle Wang, Travel Director, during the recent ASEAN Tourism Forum 2024.
