'Battle of the Falklands' - British Falklands War Song

'Battle of the Falklands' is a famous British naval battle song that commemorates the Falklands War in 1982. A conflict between the British and the Argentinians (Argies) after they invaded the islands. In the early 80s, the Argentinian government launched a full scale offensive to occupy the Falkland Islands, sending a large military force to the islands, and even swore in their own ‘governor’ of the Falklands, which they had then called the ‘Malvinas’. They even went so far as to put up signs in Spanish and force traffic to drive on the other side of the road to be more ‘Argentinian’. It was a circus. Buenos Aires expected the British to issue a protest and back off, but instead Margaret Thatcher and the British government sent forces down to the south Atlantic and quickly put them to rout in a decisive British victory. The result was celebrated, and a later referendum showed that 99% of the population of the Falklands prefers British ownership over Argentina.
