A petticoat is a layer worn underneath a woman’s gown. Although this one was made in Southern New England, it proudly shows the British Royal Arms at its front. The date is interesting because it was made after an attempted rebellion in Britain and a war with France. This makes the expression of Anglo-American identity a powerful statement.
"A Revolutionary Anthology: Subjects, Citizens, Service" is Fort Ticonderoga’s groundbreaking exhibition exploring military service during the American Revolution. Through over 100 rare objects—many on display for the first time—this exhibit reveals the personal experiences, identities, and sacrifices of those who served on all sides of the conflict. Now, you can explore the stories behind the artifacts through this exclusive digital series. To learn more, visit https://fortticonderoga.org/experienc...
