I set out alone by canoe in an undisclosed area of Northern Ontario, with minimal equipment and only a few thousand calories of food.
Though it was summer, the country is vast and wild. The lakes are deep and wide, the weather can turn suddenly, whipping up storms. Food is scarce and the nights can become dangerously cold if you can’t keep dry. I carried no fail-safes for rescue. That means no communication to the outside world by either InReach or satellite phone.
I restricted myself to 10 items;
1. Fishing rod and lures
2. Rain coat
3. Cooking pot
4. Knife
5. Axe
6. Wool blankets
7. Wool base layer of clothing
8. 3000 Calories of food
9. Toothbrush
10. Canoe and paddle
Special thanks to Nancy S. for the use of her canoe and Callum C. for the editing hardware.
