MY GUEST TODAY IS Paul Vallas who ran for mayor of Chicago in 2023. A former Chicago Public Schools CEO, Vallas ran on a platform focused on public safety, crime reduction, and school improvement, and he was endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police and many business groups. He made it to the runoff but lost the runoff election to Brandon Johnson, who was backed by the powerful Chicago Teachers Union.
Vallas served as the superintendent of the Bridgeport Public Schools in Connecticut and the Recovery School District of Louisiana, the CEO of both the School District of Philadelphia and the Chicago Public Schools, and a former budget director for the city of Chicago.
Vallas talks about the challenges facing the next Chicago Mayor, the issues that must be addressed and how to solve them.
One aspect is how failed government always throws more money and taxes at problems instead of confronting problems with smart, good ideas.
