570HP 1963 Corvette Grand Sport - LOUD 6.2L V8 Lightweight Race Car! - Amazing Sound!

Incredibly cool and rare race car. Not an original Grand Sport obviously, but a license-built continuation car, acknowledged by Duntov Motor Company & GM themselves and given a proper chassis number/ FIA passport and everything. The company that built this car, Tachyon Motorsport, has spent over a year and 150.000 euros just researching the car before they started to recreate it to every fine, little detail.

The Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport was a ''secret'' project started in 1962 by the Belgian Corvette engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov, who was aiming to beat the Shelby dominance in the racing scene. To be allowed to compete, Chevrolet had to build 125 of these cars but after 5 were completed, GM caught wind of the project and quickly put a stop to it. Because of this we will never know how well this race car would've fared at the time. Carroll Shelby himself however was quoted saying the Grand Sport would've well outclassed the Cobra's they were racing.

Because the 5 Grand Sports were so rare and not homoligated to race in period, they instantly became museum/ collector's items. They never saw action until some companies started creating replicas and license-built continuations, one of such companies being Tachyon who made this monster based on a C2 in 2013. Its base consists of the accurate lightweight aluminium tube chassis, meaning the car only weighs 916kg (2019lbs). The heart of this beast is a 6.2L (377cu) engine, the biggest one Corvette ever put into the real deal back in the day. It was said to produce 550 horsepower back then (crazy compared to Shelby's 350ish) and this modern iteration has 570. Crazy numbers for a car this light.

Driven by well known Dutch racing drivers Michiel Campagne and Allard Kalff, the Grand Sport competes in the Colmore YTCC and the Super Sixties by NKHTGT. I recorded it during the 2023 Jack's Racing Day and Tabac Classic GP in Assen.
