1980 Pitt at Florida State

This is The 10/11/1980 Pitt at Florida State game. This was alocal broadcast but it was called by long time NCAA broadcasters Jim Simpson and Bud Wilkinson. Pitt had gradually built a national power in the early to mid 70's and it came to a crescendo in 1976 when Tony Dorsett won the Heisman and Pitt won a national championship. The Panthers did not fall off of the map after that either producing top notch teams with NFL level talent through the 80's. The best of those was this 1980 unit led by dynamic QB Dan Marino. Bobby Bowden had resurrected Florida State in the late 1970's leading them to back to back Orange Bowls in 1980 and 1981. The 81 regular season was supposed to be a bit of a rebuilding job but Bowden had built the program by playing one of the toughest schedules annually and there were enough good played to give anyone fits when they played well. This was one of those games. It is one of the biggest wins in FSU history still today. It cost Pitt and Dan Marino a national title shot. I claim no rights.
