Brittany and Santana: All Too Well: The Short Film (Santana's Version)

I'm a huge Swiftie and when I listened to All Too Well 10 Minute Version for the first time yesterday, one lyric really stuck out to me;

"And there we are again when nobody had to know. You kept me like a secret but I kept you like an oath."

Immediately that one line reminded me of Brittana, and I can always find so much of Brittana's love story in Taylor's lyrics. Then when I watched the short film I got the urge to make a Brittana version (because we all need a queer version right?).

Now obviously anyone who's watched Brittany and Santana's story will know that they're not as toxic as the relationship portrayed in the short film (let's not name names), but like any relationship, it had it's challenges and hard obstacles to overcome. Inevitably the lyrics aren't always going to match up to the original because the lyrics are very personal to Taylor's situation, but I'd say that most people listen to All Too Well reflecting on their own heartbreaks and stories.

So I wanted to show Brittany and Santana's story through the eye of each individual, because both of them got hurt due to different things. In this video I wanted to explore Santana's version, and her struggles with compulsory heterosexuality and accepting herself, coming out and her self-doubt around Brittany's love for her. I don't think Santana ever got over the Artie rejection and she always thought Brittany would choose someone over her, until right at the end when we saw her finally confident in their love. Certain parts of their love story are the same as you'll see if you watch both videos, but different things hurt them, which is why I made a version for each girl.

The difference is of course the happy ending of being together, but I still thought it would be interesting to show all the pain they went through to get there. Taylor's version ends happily too, but she found happiness on her own by moving on, and both endings give hope to anyone feeling heartbroken.

Mainly, I loved how the short film showed the varying chapters, and that's exactly what Brittany and Santana's storyline can be broken down into, so here it is.
