In commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe, ASHK welcomed historians and co-curators Angus Hui and John Mak for a compelling discussion on their groundbreaking research, moderated by Professor Anthony Cheung, former President of the Hong Kong Institute of Education.
The event spotlighted the remarkable and largely forgotten contributions of Chinese individuals during the Normandy Landings of D-Day. The conversation began with the serendipitous discovery in Hong Kong of a firsthand account detailing Chinese involvement in one of the war's most pivotal moments. This revelation sparked an ongoing historical investigation that has unearthed new insights into the roles played by these unsung heroes.
Attendees got a rare glimpse into the meticulous research process and the emotional journey of uncovering stories that had long been buried in history. The session underscored the importance of recognizing diverse narratives in global events and preserving them for future generations.
