In this special episode by and from Bad Astronaut, Nayeli and Jesse chat with Alvaro Del Norte, lead singer, accordionist and founder of the San Antonio based Tex-Mex punk band, Piñata Protest. Alvaro tells Vinyl Voices how fellow musicians once thought the idea of an accordion-fronted, bilingual punk band was "dumb," but nearly 20 years into its existence, the band has played world over and is beloved in multiple music scenes. Alvaro shares the band's origin story and how it's punk ethos is critical to fans and listeners in this day and age of ICE raids and ongoing social injustice. Then, we challenge him to a salsa (homemade by Nayeli!) taste test before going to the show, where Piñata Protest once again blew us away.
