Mike recently picked up a couple of 40 pound sacks of locally sourced Pale and Munich malts for his latest American Pale Ale experiment.
Mike usually likes to buy my base malts in bulk. The large sacks have better pricing. This time, he saw on social media that Valley Malt, based in Holyoke, Massachusetts (same state as us), was running a new deal.
Through their homebrew shop, Ground Up, they’re offering 40 pound sacks instead of the traditional 50 pound size. Why? Because 40 pound sacks allow them to offer free shipping, which is a big win for homebrewers like us.
If you like buying base malt in bulk like Mike, definitely check out Valley Malt.
For this brew, we kept it super simple. Only bittering hops were used to balance the beer, with no flavor or aroma hops. Think of it like a classic old-school blonde ale.
We loved the 80% Pale and 20% Munich malt combo. The color came out great, the head retention was strong, and even after less than a week in the keg, the beer was already clearing up nicely.
Stay tuned for more beer reviews that use Valley Malt coming soon.
