Bow drill fire challenge

I was in my local county park and I wanted to challenge myself to create a Bea drill kit and create an ember and fire. My first kit (spindle and hearth) was some cedar where I think had too much moisture and was unable to get the embers to ignite, after many attempts I finally gave up on that kit. I was able to find some different wood and I am sorry, but I am not sure what kind of wood it was. I just knew the wood seemed pretty dry and had good density for a bow drill kit. I was able to create an ember from that kit and use the cedar bark as a tender bundle. It’s a fun challenge. I encourage each of you to practice these scenarios and test yourself. You will have failure, but hopefully you will have a success. Prior to this video I was also able to, create an ember from a hand drill kit, and had found all the materials on site there as well but I did not have this on film unfortunately. Either way it’s a challenge for myself and I enjoy it. Go learn your plants and go learn your skills, but you’re not gonna learn it without practice.
