Former CCC Kwekwe City ward 5 councillor Melody Chingarande in August 2023 was the only elected female councillor for the city. Councillors went on to elect her deputy mayor. However, her stint as the city's second in command was to be shortlive after she was recalled by Sengezo Tshabangu (CCC) self-appointed Secretary General. The recall was not the first but the second in less than a year. The first time she was elected deputy mayor in 2020, she only served the city in that capacity for three days after she was recalled by MDC-T President Douglas Mwonzora.
