I still have more complicated Chris stuff in the pipeline, but I needed to find something to keep the channel ticking over, so here it is.
Open Your Eyes is a very Squire/Sherwood song, quite pop-rocky, but the slightly offset time signature, the overlapping vocal arrangement, Steve's characteristically timing-fluid soloing on the Telecaster and his bookending with acoustic 12-string all put it very much in Yes territory, whatever some disappointed fans might have said at the time.
Chris is certainly on the Rick, though its customary sound isn't always obvious. There's a gentle flanging throughout, briefly jacked up to 11 for the repeated bridging lick before the guitar solo verse (Bar 90, 03:19). Apart from the odd syncopation here and there the bassline is pretty straight and disciplined, reminiscent of his Rabin-era playing .
The recurring time signature of 3/2 rather than 6/4 is down to my adherence to classical music theory, but the feel is certainly crotchets/4th-notes.
I've included (shock) 2 bars of tablature for the bridging lick, because I've played it a couple of ways and this fingering seems to me to be the most feasible.
Bar 14 (00:25) – I don't think that C is actually played, but it is implied. Perhaps the finger's on the fret but the other hand has completely damped it.
