Watch 33 diamonds being laser sawn and polished from one big 200 carat rough diamond. The hi-tech processes in a modern factory will amaze you as a total of 105 carats of different shaped diamonds are produced.
This eco-friendly facility in India has a natural cooling system where hot air is cooled by piping it under the grassed area and recycled. The roof is totally covered with solar panels.
Firstly the rough diamond is spectroscopic color graded, 3D scanned, hundreds of flaws plotted and about 1,000 cutting options planned to establish the highest possible value.
The infra-red inclusion plotting global patents were lodged by our own Garry Holloway and the planning of the cutting involves Garry’s digital Ideal-Scope images.
Planning and computer CAD programming laser sawing of 33 individual diamonds, without damaging the remaining diamonds, is unbelievable!
State of the art water cooled bruting & grinding is followed by highly trained computer-aided faceters. Only the final faceting, called brillianteering, is done in a traditional manner. All these polishers need to do is ‘join the dots’ by adding the final facets so that each one meets precisely at the adjoining points.
Then each diamond is 3D scanned and the final GIA & HCA cut quality and symmetry grade is calculated using the Helium scanner. The same instrument that we use at Holloway Diamonds when planning the improvement of our client’s diamonds to get more sparkle.
Next, each diamond is photographed in DiBox under various tools including Garry Holloways Ideal-Scope and ASET scope. In fact, Garry developed the prototypes for the reflectors and the LED lighting used in DiBox.
Finally, high-res videos are made in ViBox adding images. If you have watched Garry’s Cut Nut diamond education videos you will have seen the original ViBox prototype to his right. That also was developed using his US patented high contrast lighting.
Intermit knowledge of the diamond cutting process and the tools employed give Garry a huge advantage in sourcing the most sparkly diamonds in Australia.
