Occupational therapists demonstrate and explain the process of making a resting hand, intrinsic position orthosis / anti-deformity position orthosis / safe position orthosis / resting hand splint. This video includes how to make the pattern, how to fabricate the orthosis, and how to apply straps, as well as helpful tips and tricks along the way. The goal of this orthosis is to immobilize the hand in the intrinsic plus position, which preserves the soft tissue structures of the hand. This position puts the ligaments and intrinsic muscles of the hand and digits on stretch to prevent stiffness, shortening, and contracture.
