The Key Ingredients of A Fantasy Sandbox RPG Campaign

Online D&D "experts" who have never experienced a well constructed sandbox campaign state the structure is boring and sandbox campaigns fall apart quickly.

Those DMs are missing key ingredients in their sandbox. There are a lot of moving parts in a proper sandbox but there are four basic ingredients that are required. If you don't have these, your sandbox will be boring, bland, and, fall apart quickly.
