Glory to Maha Lakshmi: Celebrating the Essence of Maha Lakshmi

A very Happy Diwali to you! On the eve of this auspicious occasion, we share with you Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s profound perspective on Goddess Mahalakshmi, in the context of the role of mothers in creating happiness and prosperity for society and the world.

There are three qualities that need to be nurtured in the broader scope of Vedic education for all mothers worldwide, education that will unfold their full potential in nurturing the next generation, which will contribute to a prosperous future.

These three are Knowledge, Action and Progress or Prosperity.

These qualities are fully embodied by the Sanskrit word Mahalakshmi, the Vedic aspect of consciousness, of wisdom, sustenance, prosperity and good fortune. The name has three parts -

• Maha means ‘Great’, the reference to the unbounded, infinite status of consciousness. It is Brahman, the totality of everything there is.

• The second part, ‘Laksh’ means goal. The goal to become Maha or Brahman. Since Brahman is the greatest state of existence, full, complete, straddling the ever changing relative world of phenomenal existence and the never changing Absolute, infinite, eternal bedrock of creation, pure consciousness, totality of all experience.

• The third part is made of ‘Mi’. Mi has two syllables – ‘Ma’ and ‘’I’ (pronounced as ee’). Ma refers to the Self and the hum that carries in it the total value of al sounds, ‘I’ refers to the devata or divine forces of nature, totality collapsed into a point value that is dynamic.

The Maha also has a goal – to not be static, but be lively, swinging from complete silence to complete dynamism, becoming many, expressing two completely opposite values but yet not losing its own identity; thus becoming a field of all possibilities - the goal of becoming Maha, and the goal of the Maha to express divergent values and thus diversifying itself.

So the name Mahalakshmi means the total value of the Vedas scrunched into a point and made dynamic, which then expands into Maha again!

Mahalakshmi represents total knowledge imploding into a point , into infinite silence, and then expanding, again and again, the diversification of values representing abundance and prosperity. Infinite silence and infinite dynamism together.

This aspect is the field of all possibilities, an infinitely silent point with the infinite potential to expand, ready to expand into diverse values under any circumstance, the true harbinger of prosperity, or expansion.

The aspect of Mahalakshmi is then the basis of all progress, self-interacting, sufficient in herself so she can infinitely create and create and create!
