for context!
this is a rare pair, and im a multi shipper, suck it. but like, this made sense for some reason. hear me out, pierce and rhal worked in the army together and became friends quickly from rhals friendly personality (you can see it clearly when he's with his family). pierce being on the quiet side appriciated this as it meant he didn't have to talk as much, but also the fact rhal was good at knowing how he felt and was just a comfort.

so they started being more romantic together, cuddling, kissing, practically courting but not officially. if they didn't have a title it wouldn't hurt when they had to separate becuase of the king/rhals father. so when pierce started suffering with his ptsd more severely (not shown in the video) and rhal was starting to get more worried, so they got pierce transferred to asch so pierce would be safer. but pierce was getting anxious because if asch found out he was with rhal then he would lose his job and as he was always a guard he wouldn't be able to anywhere else without having to uproot his life.

so he left rhal out of fear of losing everything he had worked for. and rhal couldn't do anything other than say 'I don't care, as long as it makes you happy'

this is obviously before the series of mid, before asch's guards had properly been assembled and also before rhal met Bish. but this is all just an au! so it's not cannon.
