In early 2021 I decided to take a career break. In the video I share how to plan for your career break and what are some things you need to think about before taking this step.

Before making the decision to quit your job you have to make a plan to help you with finances, time, ideas, and mental health.

Taking a career break can be a great way to reset your life and get a new outlook. Taking a break is important for your health and there should be no guilt for taking time off work.

It can be overwhelming to leave your job and not know what's coming next, but if you plan things ahead you can relax and truly enjoy your break.

You can take as much time as you want, it could be a month or even a year - taking an adult gap year is getting more and more common. You only have one life and if taking a break is what you need then go for it.

Make sure you plan your finances well ahead of time. A gap year from work is an opportunity to change your life in a meaningful way, but it's easier to do this if you make sure you have enough finances to support you during your break.

We should normalize taking career breaks and I hope that soon people won't see taking time off as some kind of weakness. Sadly, some people still see career breaks this way. In my opinion, taking a career break actually requires strength, determination and courage. So it's the opposite of being weak.

Hopefully in future, more employers will be open to the idea of offering sabbaticals, which will allow their empoyees take time off to focus on another type of personal or professional pursuit.
