Русская зима (Russkaya Zima) means "Russian Winter".

Русская зима was formed in 1989 in Sverdlovsk (todays name - Yekaterinburg). They were one of the very first Russian bands to incorporate black metal elements in their music. They're even believed to be one of the pioneers of black metal in Russia along with Преисподняя (Preispodnyaya). Initially, the music was based on black-doom metal sound. Around at 1992 death metal came into use coupled with the old traditions of black metal, significantly strengthened and weighed down the already very harsh sound of the band.

The band first split up in 1990, reformed in 1992, split up again in the beginning of 1995, and reformed again in 2012.
