It serves as the District Capital of GOMOA WEST DISTRICT ASSEMBLY.

APAM is a coastal towns, so fishing is their main occupation.

When I visited APAM , I found out that there was a FORT on the Coastal Hill of Apam that most Ghanaians don't know, yes, There's a FORT in APAM called FORT PATIENCE.

FORT PATIENCE
is a Dutch-built fort located in the township of Apam, in the Central Region of Ghana. Originally built in 1697, it served as a defensive fortification and a trading post.

The coast of Gomoa Apam was a major port before independence, but after the construction of Tema, shipping was restricted. The town has an Odikro (town chief). It is also the capital of the Gomoa Akyempem Paramountcy. There are many fishermen as fishing is the main industry. Apam has a Secondary School, an FM station, several churches and a salt factory. The Benyah River is used for salt production.

Apam Akwambo festival [1] is celebrated by the chiefs and peoples of Gomoa Apam in the Central region of Ghana. The festival is celebrated in the month of September every year. People in Apam, in the Central Region, celebrate the Akwambo, which literally means "path-clearing."
