Edgar is on the run after being falsely accused of planning the murder of his father the Earl of Gloucester, when it was really Edgar's brother, Gloucester’s younger, illegitimate son Edmund.
Edmund resents his status as a bastard child and schemes to usurp Gloucester’s title and possessions from Edgar.
During this scene Edgar realises that if he is found he will be killed. His character goes through a transformation assuming the disguise of a mad beggar to evade his father’s men...
