PLOT OUTLINE
Executive Producer and creator: Emmanuel Ncube
Associate Producer: Baz
Uhangwela is an upcoming multi-lingual Zimbabwean drama series that highlights cultural and social issues among the Venda who are predominantly resident in the southern parts of Zimbabwe.
The drama series in question was created by the artful brilliance of Emmanuel Ncube who founded Manolo Productions. Manolo Productions was supported by the Government of Zimbabwe through the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services ; under the auspices of its Zimdigital Migration Project in Beitbridge.
Uhangwela, which is translated: “forgive and forget”, is a drama series whose objectives are to highlight the traits of the Venda people, particularly their pride and to showcase their culture and its diversity.
Uhangwela chronicles a story that borders around unforgiving individuals who ironically desire to be forgiven regardless. The comprehension and recognition of human error as well as accountability by mature characters are tactfully expressed. The key message is that the ability to forgive is synonymous with living a better life.
The intent of the drama series is to educate and entertain the society through the weaving of a tale that resonates with the community. The scenes exhibit forgiveness, revenge, justice and innocence. These themes are portrayed theatrically with a touch of humour to captivate the audience and to keep them amused and attentive.
The drama series magnifies the underlying forgiveness and revenge issues that characterise the Tshinoni family and Tshisimani Tshavhutshilo Ministries members. Conflict and clashes among differing cultures and traditions are acted out by talented actors and actresses. One can expect to watch Mrs Nelly Tshinoni, a shona speaking lady who is married to Loshani Tshinoni a Venda man whose rocky relationship is the basis of conflict and family feuds. On the other end one can expect to watch Pastor Joshua Panganai Shava whose dreadful past haunts him but is genuinely trying to be a better man who lives a blameless life.
Uhangwela is acted out chiefly in the Venda language but incorporates Shona, Ndebele, Sotho and English to make it a linguistically rich drama series. English subtitles accompany each scene to accommodate a greater viewership and to overcome any lingual barriers.
