An early forerunner of Spike Jones in Germany??? Well, "Meschugge" (from yiddish "crazy", "nuts") was a pseudonym for a certain Herr Krüger, who led this band in Berlin before WWI.
The following information is given by Rainer E. Lotz (in "German Ragtime & Prehistory of Jazz", Storyville Publications 1985):
"Kapellmeister Krüger was the most famous of the 'excentric conductors', who were the rage of Berlin in 1912 (and again in 1919). Others were Messrs. Albertini, Casella, Löwenthal, Magini, Rigo, Schlemihl, etc. They specialized in weird movements, jumping about like madmen, they chose wild tempi and used all sorts of percussion effects including pistol shots ..."
