Rowing is THE BEST cardio training for rugby

It's hard to find a cardio exercise that has as many of the benefits as rowing does. For rugby players, especially amateur players who need to balance training and injury prevention, rowing is by far the best cardio training you can do.
Why do we say that? Because rowing is a full body exercise with a low (or even NO impact) ion your joints. The movement engages all sorts of stabilizing muscles with a particular focus on the core. And when you utilize the rowing programs at the end of this video, it also forces you to focus on technique when you're tired.

BEGINNERS PROGRAM
The article includes two programs, the first of which is designed for anyone who is just getting into rowing and wants a good base of cardio to build from. The program lasts for 4 weeks and is focused on building power into your rowing stroke.
ADVANCED PROGRAM
The advanced program lasts 8 weeks and extends what you learned in the beginner's program. It utilizes 250m and 500m sprints with rest period declining over the two months and efforts becoming longer overall.
