The Sissies are an indie-punk group from Bloomington, Indiana (I think, pretty sure) comprised of Ali Haimson, Hannah Jones and Jared MacKinnon (credited as simply Jrd). While this is listed as a "miscellaneous" release on discogs the album length and liner notes suggest this is their third studio album. They have a raw, unpolished sound (love the production on this album, it sounds very up close and personal to me) that very vaguely touches on pop-punk but I think they're more in the vein of indie-punk groups like Mika Miko, Ted Leo, The Wombats etc. etc.
After Sissies in the mid 00s Jared and Ali would form and play in a new group called "What The Kids Want" and in 2012 Jared would release one album with the newly-formed group Pleasure Blade. Hannah Jones previously played in Disarm and Operation: Cliff Clavin and has been the most active of the three with a post-Sissies musical resume that includes The Devil Is Electric and a stint in Ghost Mice!
One thing I personally really like about this release is the insert. On one side it includes the lyrics to all the songs, cool, BUT - the flip side is labeled "Song Explanations" and has the stories/inspirations behind each song! That is too fucken cool! I wish more bands would do this, I cannot tell you how many songs there are that I absolutely love that I would DIE to know the stories behind.
A highly recommended release for fans of the indie-punk genre and midwest emo/punk.
