Conditions were perfect. The bait was perfect. The target was plaice, and plaice alone. I headed to the Sussex coast (near Brighton) with high hopes of a decent fishing session. The sea had cleared out and it was a gloriously sunny day. With northerly winds for a couple of days, the sea was as calm as it gets.
I arrived at the beach at about 07:30, ready to fish through to mid afternoon. Using three different rigs -- a mono bar rig, a two-hook clipped down, and a loop rig -- I experimented to see what worked best on the day: watch the video to find out!
Baits used were fresh black lug, frozen lug and mussels, with all baits producing fish. The session was awesome, with some lovely plaice landed: over 50 were caught between me and my mate who joined me on the shingle for the day.
