Like vintage sewing patterns, knitting patterns of the 1930s and 40s are a reflection of the ingenuity of women knitting and sewing in the 1930s and 1940s, during the Great Depression and World War 2.

There were iconic patterns - the Rainbow or Bunny Ear jumper seen in Jojo Rabbit, the Seawaves and Datemaker Cardigan.

In the United Kingdom the Make Do and Mend movement gave rise to many clever ideas for making the most of wool on rationing coupons, while in the United States Hollywood stars like Joan Crawford and Bette Davis were a source of inspiration
