Sea Kayaking Mull of Galloway to Port Logan via fast tide races and deep sea caves.
After kayaking back from Ailsa Craig (See Video...
• Ailsa Craig by Sea Kayak & Drone July 2021 ) Bob Evans and myself drove south to East Tarbet beach on the end of Mull of Galloway, to Kayak around the Mull and up the west side to Port Logan the next day.
This can be a very extreme trip if there is any swell at all, due to the complex mixing of tides and sea conditions encountered off the end and should only be undertaken by experienced kayakers with a good knowledge of local conditions, tides, weather and sea conditions!
The caves around the Mull are spectacular having been driven deep into the rock by the sea over many years. Seals, sea birds and pigeons can be encountered resting deep within the caves ready to surprise any absent minded kayaker.
Other tide races exist further up the coast seaward of Cammach Head, sadly by the time we approached the area it was almost slack water and very little evidence of the race at all. A few more deep caves were encountered prior to our finish point at Port Logan.
An excellent trip in ideal conditions!
