THE REAL Shillong - Far From The India You Thought You Knew

In this video, I'll show you Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya in India's North East.

Meghalaya state is often called the "Scotland of the East" because of its rolling hills, cool climate, and scenic beauty.

Shillong city itself is a charming hill station nestled at about 1,500 meters (4,900 feet) above sea level. It’s the largest city in Meghalaya and serves as the state’s capital. The city feels different from much of India — it’s cooler, greener, and has a relaxed vibe.

The streets of Shillong are lively, with colorful markets like Police Bazaar and Ïewduh (Bara Bazaar), where you’ll find everything from local crafts to street food. The city has a mix of modern cafés, old churches from the colonial era, and traditional Khasi homes.

Shillong is also famous for its educational institutions, earning it the nickname "Education Hub of the Northeast." The people here, mainly Khasi, are friendly, and English is widely spoken, making it quite easy for visitors to get around.

We'll explore the city, and find the real life at Ïewduh thanks to help from some locals.
