Endometriosis Symptoms - Leg Pain

ENDOMETRIOSIS & LEG PAIN

Upon all of my recent learnings about endometriosis-related leg pain, I’m now convinced that the pain I’ve been feeling in my right thigh for 14 YEARS is actually endometriosis related.

10 years ago I was diagnosed with meralgia paresthetica AKA trapped nerve in the groin. After having several outbursts at my GP for immense pain, numbness & burning sensations in my right thigh, typically experienced when standing or walking for long periods of time, I was referred to a neurologist.

First, I was taken through the Lasègue’s test to identify nerve root irritation or compression.

I was subsequently sent for a lumbar spine MRI. Fortunately, it came back as ‘unremarkable’.

I was then sent for an Electromyography study. I was basically pocked in the thigh with very fine needles that are connected to a machine that transmits electrical waves to measure muscular response to stimulation. The test found that my muscles were fine, concluding that I had: meralgia paraesthetica à compression of the femoral cutaneous nerve that controls feelings & sensations in the surface of the outer thigh. If the nerve is compressed, it can cause pain, numbness & tingling across the front & side.

The “common causes” of this condition are stated to be:
• Pregnancy
• Obesity
• Tight Clothing
• Injury to the area or previous surgery

Aside from being a (temporary) fan of tight jeans, I did not qualify for any of those causes. And yet I was sent on my way with my diagnosis and ONE very generous physio appointment on the NHS!

At that point I hadn’t been diagnosed with endo, but I was suffering with endometriosis symptoms. These days, leg pain IS KNOWN to be fairly common.

I now conclude that my condition is endo-related, because there is no other rationale for why I have had it since being a menstruating teenager.
