This talk will cover basic concepts of critical minerals from a Canadian-US-Australian perspective. It will then cover what are VMS deposits and the general processes of formation, what critical elements are present in VMS deposits Cu-Zn, Sn-In, Bi-Te-(Sb-As), and Co-Ni-(Te-Se-Bi) and using various example deposits from Canada and globally, and what are key factors in controlling critical mineral/metal enrichment, including leaching of footwall rocks, role of magmatic-hydrothermal fluids, and post-VMS formation metamorphic and structural upgrading and metal remobilization.
