वृच्छन से मति ले, मन तू वृच्छन से मति ले।
काटे वाको क्रोध न करहीं, सिंचत न करहीं नेह॥
धूप सहत अपने सिर ऊपर, और को छाँह करेत॥
जो वाही को पथर चलावे, ताही को फल देत॥
धन्य-धन्य ये पर-उपकारी, वृथा मनुज की देह॥
सूरदास प्रभु कहँ लगि बरनौं, हरिजन की मत ले॥
O mind, take wisdom, insight, and virtues from the trees.
Even when cut, they do not feel anger; even when watered, they do not grow attached in affection.
They endure the scorching sun on their own heads, yet provide shade to others.
Even to those who throw stones at them, they offer fruits in return.
Blessed, blessed are these selfless beings; the human body is wasted without such service.
Surdas says, how can I describe the greatness of such selfless beings? O mind, adopt the mindset of God’s true devotees.
