UNSC member states P5 like Russia China demanded immediate release of Venezuela's captured President Nicolas Madura and his wife At the meeting, Russian envoy to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, condemned the US “act of armed aggression" against Venezuela and called on Washington to release Maduro and his wife. “There is no and can be no justification for the crimes cynically perpetrated by the United States in Caracas. We firmly condemn the U.S. act of armed aggression against Venezuela, in breach of all international legal norms. US Ambassador Mike Waltz defended the action as a justified “surgical law enforcement operation,” insisting the US is “not at war with Venezuela or its people.” Waltz described Maduro as a “narcotrafficker” responsible for attacks on the US, destabilising the Western Hemisphere, and repressing Venezuelans, and argued the operation was in line with lawful indictments.
