Here's another all-time pops standard. Composer Fred Ahlert and lyricist Roy Turk wrote this in 1931, and it was immediately taken up by many different popular bands and recording stars, among which just a few are Tommy Dorsey, Frank Sinatra, Wayne King, Dean Martin, and well-known 1950s Hammond artist, Ken Griffin, likewise recorded an arrangement in 1953.
This is not a totally literal copy of Ken's arrangement but it is close, and I'm using the same sound on a similar Hammond, repeating echo for ambience, and a little of Ken's subtle pluck effect on a Hammond organ, and also in one part, I duplicate the main melody as a countermelody in the background, so, yes, I would definitely say it is mostly a Ken Griffin imitation. For the last verse I played it slightly differently, with a different sound but it still should please Ken Griffin fans as possibly just a slightly different Ken Griffin styling. At the end of the video, I include a few notes on the pluck effect, and there is also a link to a video where I imitate Ken Griffin's Christmas song, "Kringle's Jingle, in which I have a detailed explanation of what the pluck effect is and how he did it. You should see a small circled letter "i" in the upper right of this video, and if you click on that you'll get info on and access to this other video that demonstrates the initial pluck sound on a Hammond. Thank you for watching, I hope you enjoyed this, and if you did, please give the video a "like" and if you want to become a subscriber, that way YouTube will send you notice of whenever I upload a new video. If you like Hammond music, then you will enjoy The HAMMOND Guy channel as that is what I mainly feature here, But this is not exclusively a Ken Griffin channel as I play other styles and my main criterion for choosing what music to play is: is it musically interesting, and perhaps somewhat unusual or different from what many others play on Hammonds today. Occasionally I use various keyboards or an iPad "Garage Band app" to play various guitars, pianos, celesta, or brass and woodwind instrumental solos which I then accompany on the Hammond.
Here's a timeline of what I did on this video so you can quickly access any particular section that interests you. You can also use the "scrub bar" below the video to access these places. Likewise, if you turn on Subtitles, you can read about what I am doing in some detail. Be sure to listen on a good stereo system for best results. If you are using a cell phone or other portable device, plug its audio output into your car's sound system, as most automotive stereo systems today are excellent. Just don't watch videos if you are driving!
