As a part of our ongoing desire to learn how to and create a sustainable urban garden, we decided to get a greenhouse to extend our growing season on both ends. Early spring we will now be able to start our plants from seed well before the last frost and then later in the season we will be able to continue producing into fall. On a side note, now that we have had the greenhouse for several months and are entering winter, we have found that the greenhouse is also a great place to be on cold days, just to hang out and feel like we're outdoors as the temps inside can easily reach into the 80s and 90s.

We chose the Vego Pacific Greenhouse because it checked off all the boxes of our needs. On the top of that list, double walled Polycarbonate panels, heavy-duty aluminum frame, double door entry, 4 roof vents, snow load, a good warranty, and we wanted it to be aesthetically appealing in our ongoing backyard oasis design. The customer service Vego provides was well received as they we attentive to our questions throughout the process, from ordering, to delivery and throughout the build.

The build itself was pretty much straight forward. It did feel like quite the project and a little overwhelming at first, but following the step-by-step process laid out in the directions, the greenhouse slowly came to life. The only real challenge was deciding what type of foundation we wanted before the actual build. There are not a lot of Vego Greenhouse videos out there, so we were flying a bit blind and just started watching all sorts of greenhouse videos for ideas. In the end, we are very happy with the build and the greenhouse itself. Bottom line, we would recommend it and buy it again.

We will have to revisit further review after using the greenhouse through an entire season. That said, we are excited to get growing and let the process evolve. We have since added lighting for those dark evenings. We are looking to add a few 50 gallon water barrels to help retain heat overnight using the thermal mass technique. We are also looking at adding solar vent fans without altering the structure of the greenhouse to help exhaust excess heat in the summer months. This will likely lead to an eventual solar power system for the greenhouse. Like out ongoing backyard oasis project, the greenhouse itself will continue to evolve as we learn and implement those gleanings.

We did pay for the greenhouse ourselves out of our own pockets. The only other greenhouse we were considering was the Planta Sungrow. Vego edged out our decision because of the exact size we wanted and a few design features. Both of these greenhouse choices are rated quite high in the industry and would be a good choice for anyone serious about using a greenhouse.
